The title of LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse for 2020 belongs to GHAIYYATH (IRE) [130]. He earned his rating of 130 in the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), which was also named the 2020 LONGINES World’s Best Horse Race.
Ghaiyyath won his first four starts in 2020, beginning with a dominant performance in the Dubai Millennium Stakes Sponsored by Jaguar (G3), which he took by 8 ½ lengths at Meydan. The then 5-year-old completed the 2000-meter contest in 2:00.33, setting a new track record in the process, before returning to Europe. He then defeated ANTHONY VAN DYCK (IRE) [122] by 2 ½ lengths in the Hurworth Bloodstock Coronation Cup Stakes (G1) before going on to best 2019 co-LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse ENABLE (GB) [122] by 2 ¼ lengths in the Coral-Eclipse (G1). Ghaiyyath’s three-length victory in the International over MAGICAL (IRE) [122], LORD NORTH (IRE) [123], and KAMEKO (USA) [122] cemented his place at the top of the rankings. The second highest rated horse of the year is AUTHENTIC (USA) [126], who earned his rating of 126 in the LONGINES Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). Authentic is also the highest rated dirt horse and highest rated 3-year-old in the world for 2020. Authentic won the Classic by 2 ¼ lengths over IMPROBABLE (USA) [123], while GLOBAL CAMPAIGN (USA) [120] was third. Earlier in the year, Authentic won the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), TVG.com Haskell Stakes (G1), San Felipe Stakes (G2), and Sham Stakes (G3). Seven horses representing three different continents are ranked co-third for 2020 with an equal rating of 125. ADDEYBB (IRE) [125] capped off his season in the Qipco Champion Stakes (G1), BIVOUAC (AUS) [125] took the Darley Sprint Classic (G1), CLASSIQUE LEGEND (AUS) [125] won the Tab Everest, PALACE PIER (GB) [125] annexed the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois (G1), PERSIAN KING (IRE) [125] was triumphant in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (G1), STRADIVARIUS (IRE) [125] dominated the Gold Cup (G1), and TIZ THE LAW (USA) [125] claimed the Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) to earn their ratings. The tenth spot in the rankings is held jointly by five horses: ALMOND EYE (JPN [124], CONTRAIL (JPN) [124], GOLDEN SIXTY (AUS) [124], MOHAATHER (GB) [124], and NATURE STRIP (AUS) [124]. Overall, 252 horses, trained in 15 different countries, were rated 115 or higher.
