FRANKEL (GB) [140] retains his position of top racehorse in the world in the latest edition of World Thoroughbred Rankings in advance of his season ending attempt to win the Qipco Champion Stakes (G1) at Ascot on October 20th.
There he is due to meet the winner of that race last year, the six year old French trained gelding CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR) [130], who further enhanced his reputation when sauntering to an effortless nine length triumph on his comeback from injury in the Qatar Prix Dollar (G2) at Longchamp last weekend.
The French trained four year old SOLEMIA (IRE) [122] became the first older filly or mare since Urban Sea in 1993 to win the prestigious Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) in a gripping finish from the Japanese Triple Crown winner from 2011, ORFEVRE (JPN) [127], on very testing ground.
In the United States , the build-up continues towards the Breeders' Cup, with GAME ON DUDE (USA) [123], runner up in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) in 2011, showing he will be a force to be reckoned with in this year's event with a comfortable win in the race now named after his sire, the Awesome Again Handicap (formerly the Goodwood H) (G1) at Santa Anita.
WISE DAN (USA) [124] and POINT OF ENTRY (USA) [123] continued their buildup towards the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) and Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) respectively when comfortably winning their lead up races. Wise Dan showed that he will be tough to beat in the Breeders' Cup Mile when winning the Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland, while Point Of Entry confirmed that he will be the principal home contender for the Breeders' Cup Turf in continuing his recent winning sequence when winning the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (G1) at Belmont Park.
