The performance of Gladiatorus (USA) exceeded the previous highest rated winner of the Dubai Duty Free (ADMIRE MOON (JPN) [125] in 2007) and marks him out as a most exciting prospect.
WELL ARMED (USA) [124] put up a career best performance in romping home by fourteen lengths in the Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (G1), in the process laying down a marker for the accolade of top dirt performer in the world.
There have been a number of notable performances by sprinters in the early part of 2009. Top Australian speedster APACHE CAT (AUS) [121] replicated his previous best rating by annexing the Pulse Pharmacy Australia Stakes (G1) but he has now been joined at that level by his compatriot SCENIC BLAST (AUS) [121], who achieved this mark by winning the Crown Newmarket Handicap (G1). The pair are closely followed by South African sprinter JJ THE JET PLANE (SAF) [120] who put up a fine performance in winning the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai, while BIG CITY MAN (USA) [119] produced the best performance by a dirt sprinter in 2009 so far when winning the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) in impressive fashion.
In South Africa, POCKET POWER (SAF) [121] created history by winning his third consecutive J and B Met (G1) thus affirming his status as top racehorse in Africa.
The World Thoroughbred Rankings (formerly known as ‘World's Leading Horses’) are compiled by the World Rankings Supervisory Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA). The next edition of the World Thoroughbred Rankings will be published on 20th May 2009.
