Frankel's visually stunning front-running success by six lengths at Newmarket was the best performance put up by a classic colt in that race since ZAFONIC (USA) [130] back in 1993.

Former Australian superstar SO YOU THINK (NZ) [126] has resumed his career in Ireland and has returned in similar form to his 2010 exploits with comprehensive victories at the Curragh in both the High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes (G3) and more recently in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (G1), with the promise of more to come.

Singapore sprinter ROCKET MAN (AUS) [125] has achieved a new career high in his last two impressive performances at Kranji in the Lions City Cup (SIN G1) and subsequently in the KrisFlyer International Sprint (G1), while Australian sprinter HAY LIST (AUS) [122] has equally gone to a new higher level albeit in defeat to Black Caviar in the Bundaberg Distilling Co. BTC Cup (G1) at Doomben and in winning the Daily Telegraph All-Aged Stakes (G1) at Randwick over 1400m.

There have been a number of impressive performances at the start of the European Flat season most notably by CANFORD CLIFFS (IRE) [125] in defeating Italian colt WORTHADD (IRE) [122] in the JLT Lockinge Stakes (G1). French colt PLANTEUR (IRE) [122] has improved on his 2010 level as evidenced by his impressive performances in the Prix d'Harcourt (G2) and more recently in the Prix Ganay (G1) at Longchamp where he broke the course record, while top fillies of 2010 such as French trained SARAFINA (FR) [121] and British-based MIDDAY (GB) [119] have recently returned to the racecourse in impressive fashion.

In North America, the top horses among the classic generation are ANIMAL KINGDOM (USA) [121], who made an impressive dirt debut at Churchill Downs in winning the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands (G1) and SHACKLEFORD (USA) [121], who finished fourth in that race, but who managed to gain revenge on Animal Kingdom by half a length in the Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico.
