The best performance so far in 2010 has come from the North American trained four year old QUALITY ROAD (USA) [126] who put up a tremendous performance in winning the Donn Handicap (G1) at Gulfstream Park in Florida in February. This performance elevated the colt to third place in the Rankings just behind his compatriot, the sensational unbeaten mare ZENYATTA (USA) [128], whose recent comeback performance in the Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap (G1) gave every indication that she is at least as good as ever.
Top British mare DAR RE MI (GB) [120] also made a marvelous comeback in the Dubai Sheema Classic (sponsored by China Guangsha Group) (G1) at Meydan racecourse in Dubai where she narrowly defeated the Japanese filly BUENA VISTA (JPN) [117] and old rival SPANISH MOON (USA) [120]. GLORIA DE CAMPEAO (BRZ) [120] showed his tremendous versatility on all surfaces once more when narrowly coming out on top in a thrilling finish to the Emirates Dubai World Cup (G1) from the improving locally trained duo LIZARD’S DESIRE (SAF) [119] and ALLYBAR (IRE) [119] both of whom put up career best efforts in defeat.
Hong Kong sprinter SACRED KINGDOM (AUS) [122] reaffirmed his status as the world’s top turf sprinter in the Chairman’s Sprint Prize (HK1) in February but he now faces a fresh challenge to his crown as sprint king after the impressive performance of American sprinter KINSALE KING (USA) [121] in defeating crack Singapore gelding ROCKET MAN (AUS) [120] in the Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), while Dubai trained six-year-old AL SHEMALI (GB) [119] put up a career best effort in defeating an impressive international field in the Dubai Duty Free (G1), also run at the Meydan complex.
