(This edition of WTRR is to be distinguished from the latest edition of World's Leading Horses (5th August 2007) which includes performances worldwide by horses wheresoever raced or trained in the qualifying period between 1st February 2007 and 5th August 2007)

TOP HORSES:

INVASOR (ARG) (129) claims overall champion status by virtue of his imperious performance in beating PREMIUM TAP (USA) (125) in the Emirates Dubai World Cup (G1), in the process proving that his success in the 2006 Breeders Cup Classic Powered by Dodge was no fluke. He now claims the singular honour of topping two successive World Thoroughbred Racehorse Rankings, having also topped the 2006 WTRR published last January, for horses who raced in or were trained in countries whose racing season follows the calendar year. The other outstanding performance on dirt also took place on Dubai World Cup night when ASIATIC BOY (ARG) (120) once again displayed complete dominance against the classic crop when easily winning the Al Naboodah UAE Derby (G2).

The best turf performances qualifying for inclusion in the current edition of WTRR also took place on Dubai World Cup night. ADMIRE MOON (JPN) (125) put up the best overall performance on turf in the Dubai Duty Free (G1), beating LINNGARI (IRE) (122), while VENGEANCE OF RAIN (NZ) (122) claimed joint champion honours in the 'Long' category in winning the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) (sponsored by Nakheel) defeating ORACLE WEST (SAF) (119), and shared this accolade with compatriot VIVA PATACA (GB) (122), who achieved the same rating for winning the HK Champions & Chater Cup (HK G1).

ABSOLUTE CHAMPION (AUS) (121) put up the best performance by a sprinter in winning the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint (G1), just holding off the competing claims of TAKEOVER TARGET (AUS) (120) and MISS ANDRETTI (AUS) (120) for their performances in the Sprinters Stakes (G1) in Japan and the King's Stand Stakes (G2) in England respectively. MISS ANDRETTI's performance in the latter contest was especially noteworthy for being the best performance by a filly or mare in this edition of WTRR. DELTA BLUES (JPN) (120) put up the best performance by a stayer in winning the Emirates Melbourne Cup (G1). Top performance in the Intermediate category on turf was by POMPEII RULER (AUS) (120), whose performance in the Darley Australian Cup (G1) was deemed marginally superior to the performances of compatriots DESERT WAR (AUS) (119) and FIELDS OF OMAGH (AUS) (119) in the Bigpond Queen Elizabeth (G1) and Tattersalls Cox Plate (G1) respectively.
