Longines World’s Best Racehorse & Longines World's Best Horse Race Ceremony to be Live Streamed

Longines and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) will provide a live video stream of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse and Longines World’s Best Horse Race Ceremony, which will be held on 24 January 2017.

The ceremony is returning to the iconic hotel Claridge’s in London, England, and it will begin at 13:30 GMT/8:30 EST.  The live video stream will be available at both longines.com and ifhaonline.org

This will be the fourth ceremony honouring the Longines World’s Best Racehorse. For 2015, American Pharoah was honoured after sweeping the American Triple Crown and the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Japan’s Just A Way was the highest rated horse of 2014, while Australia’s Black Caviar and France’s Treve were jointly celebrated in 2013.

Additionally, the Longines World’s Best Horse Race will be awarded for the second time. The Longines World’s Best Horse Race Award recognizes the best-rated race of the highest-rated Group 1 international races as established for the year by a panel of international handicappers. The ratings of the top four finishers in each race serve as basis for the assessment. France’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was the inaugural winner.

The Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are established by international handicappers according to the performance of the horses in elite races. While the final 2016 rankings will be revealed during the ceremony, Arrogate’s performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic vaulted him above veterans California Chrome (USA) and Winx (AUS) in the November rankings.

The connections of the winning horse will be presented with an elegant Longines watch and a replica of the vase of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse. The original vase, on which the names of the winning horses are engraved, can now be seen at the Longines Boutique on Oxford Street in London.
