Australian racing authorities to inquire jockeys over betting

The racing stewards in Australian's Victoria jurisdiction have started inquiries of several jockeys over their betting behaviour. It is the first time this happens since stewards received this new power.

The enquiries follow investigations into alledged betting accounts of the jockeys. Jockeys are permitted to gamble on sport but not on horse racing. Stewards can reprimand, fine, suspend or disqualify riders found to have breached the no-betting rule.
