Taipei arrests of online betting ring

The Taipei police have stopped a large online sports gambling ring that took in more than US$ 15M million in wagers on this year's World Baseball Classic.

The gambling website had a deceptive home page, suggesting it was merely a sports information portal. However, once you logged in, it became a true gambling site offering bets on sporting events from all parts of the world. The online bookmaker took one percent of any transaction, win or lose.

The police has found it difficult to track the criminals, as they used laptop computers, moved aroud the country to sell their bets domestically, with bets transferred each time to an off-shore computer server.
