Holland reconfirms gambling restrictions with EU authorities

Following inquiries by the European Commission, the Dutch government responded in reaffirming to the EU executive that its policy on gambling does not violate European rules.

In a letter to the European Commission, the Dutch Minister of Justice explains that the restrictions to the free provision of gambling services are justified to prevent gambling addiction and to counter money laundering.

The European Commission will now have to decide whether it agrees with the letter or whether it takes its inquiries further. It will also have to decide the coming months on the responses from the few other countries that have been subject to its inquiries.
