Breeders' Cup elects new Board of Members

Officials of Breeders' Cup Limited announced today the election of 13 individuals to its Board of Members and Trustees. The election occurs through a voting system which includes Breeders' Cup foal and stallion nominators. The election results were confirmed by Crowe Chizek and Company LLC on Tuesday, June 27, and are expected to be ratified by the current Breeders' Cup Board of Members and Trustees at its annual meeting scheduled in July.

The 13 elected members will each serve a three-year term on the Breeders' Cup Board of Members and Trustees beginning August 1. They are:

  • B. Wayne Hughes, Spendthrift Farm
  • Tom Ludt, Vinery LLC

  • Satish K. Sanan, Padua Stables

Mrs. Chandler, Mr. Hughes, Mr. Phipps, Mr. Sanan, Mr. Santulli and Mr. Stronach were each reelected to the Board of Members and Trustees.

“Our foal and stallion nominators have chosen an excellent group of individuals to serve on the Breeders' Cup Board of Members and Trustees,” said Breeders' Cup President D.G. Van Clief, Jr. “We look forward to utilizing their guidance and experience on a wide range of issues affecting the Breeders' Cup and the Thoroughbred industry.”

The Breeders Cup Board of Members and Trustees consists of 46 individuals. In January, the Board approved amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and changes in the Breeders' Cup By-laws that authorized a new Board of Directors and the reconstitution of the 46 member Board as the Board of the Members and Trustees. Under the new structure, Members and Trustees are elected by the current voting system based on Breeders' Cup foal and stallion nominations. On January 8, the Members and Trustees elected a new, 13-person Board of Directors, which oversees the activities of the corporation. The Board of Members and Trustees will meet at least annually for the election of members to the Board of Directors.
