France firm on shirt sponsorship by online gambling companies

The French authorities remain firm against shirt sponsorship of gambling services that are forbidden in France.

This week, a professional cycle team was banned from displaying the name and logo of a Swedish online gambling website on its shirt while participating at a key competition.

These gambling websites are forbidden in France and a new law has given the enforcement authorities more powers to act against them if they target French citizen. Last year, all football teams have alrady been forced to stop shirt sponsorship deals with online gambling operators.

Today, the Italian cycle tour organisers have taken similar steps and have banned the same Swedish sponsored team from the "Giro d'Italia" and some other important cycle tours.
