The top 3yo in the World over 10-12F last year , NATHANIEL (GB)(125) recently returned to the racetrack and annexed the Coral Eclipse (G1) in dogged fashion from FARRH (GB)(122) before narrowly losing out to the German mare DANEDREAM (GER)(123) in a pulsating finish to the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes ( Sponsored by Betfair ) at Ascot. DANEDREAM , the reigning Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe victor , returned to form there in beating a stellar field which included ST NICHOLAS ABBEY (GB)(124), SEA MOON (GB)(123) and RELIABLE MAN (GB)(122).

Among this years classic generation in Europe , the German colt PASTORIUS (GER)(123) ranks second only to Triple Crown aspirant CAMELOT (GB)(124) following his imperious romp in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis-Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (G1) while ELUSIVE KATE (USA)(119) established herself as the best 3yo female miler when front-running to victory in the Prix Rothschild (G1) at Deauville. The best older sprinter in Europe this year also won at Deauville with French filly MOONLIGHT CLOUD (GB) (121) repeating her winning performance from last year in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) and in the process achieved a career high rating in winning by five lengths.

In North America , there have been a number of noteworthy performances in the last month. Joint top American dirt sprinter of 2011 , AMAZOMBIE (USA)(121) has improved again this year and showed he was equally adept on a synthetic surface when winning the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) at Del Mar recently where ACCLAMATION (USA)(123) triumphed once again in the Eddie Read Stakes (G1) on turf. Another west coast horse , PAYNTER (USA)(119) proved himself a coming force among the classic generation when winning the Haskell Invitional (G1) at Monmouth Park on the east coast. Best performance of the seasonal meet at Saratoga so far was put up by the progressive FORT LARNED (USA)(121) who defeated RON THE GREEK (USA)(120) in the Whitney Invitational Handicap (G1).

Meanwhile in South Africa , WHAT A WINTER (SAF)(120) returned to form recently in winning the prestigious Mercury Sprint (G1) while in Singapore , the three year old New Zealand bred colt SUPER EASY (NZ) continues to impress and remains unbeaten there after a four length romp in the Paititi Gold Cup (SIN G3 )
