Horse sickness forces Australia to change 2008 Racing Calendar

On Friday 21st September, the racing sector will start a process to review the 2008 racing calendar as a consequence of the Equine Influenza that has affected New South Wales and Queensland.

Discussions will focus on the major events in the two States. According to a declaration by the Australian Racing Board, any changes that may be made to the timing of events will take the national calendar into account.

The dates of racehorse auctions are also likely to be affected. Magic Millions sales company has declared the need for its January 2008 Gold Coast sales to be deferred from its usual early January scheduling.
