European Courts to give opinion on Greek gambling

In yet another national case by private bookmakers against state gambling monopolies, the European Court of Justice was said to be invited for an opinion on matters related to the Greek single license holder OPAP.

The British bookmaker Stanleybet wants to open betting shops in Greece, but were stopped by the enforcement authorities. According reports in eGaming Review, the Greek Council of State - an administrative court - has asked preliminary questions to the European Court of Justice on whether the single license system is in conformity with EU law.

Some sources say that the European Court of Justice will deal with the many gambling related questionsin one opinion.
