Germany's highest court confirms that gambling restrictions are conform EU law

Germany’s highest court ruled that the Bavarian casino monopoly is justified and in conformity with EU law and jurisprudence. Reducing gambling addiction and crime are compelling state interest that justifies limiting the freedom of private businesses, according to the court.

The Court decision strengthens the German government with regard to their proposal to ban Internet-based lotteries and sports betting in German states. This proposal is questioned by the European Commission in Brussels, who believes that the law may be disproportionate.
