Global online gaming estimated at US$10,9 billion

A recent survey by research company eMarketer estimates the global online gaming turnover for 2005 to have been 10.9 billion dollars. The report further states that global Internet gambling revenues grew 28 percent last year.

The data is based on many estimations, as most online betting companies do not reveil their statistics. In addition, users of gaming services do not necessarily provide reliable data as in most jurisdictions their activity would be illegal.

According to another report, by research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), mobile gaming is also developing rapidly. This study estimates total mobile game revenues in 2005 to have been US$600 million. It predicts total volume to reach US$1,500 million by 2008.
