Launch of newspaper dedicated to sports betting

In light of the booming sports betting market, a daily newspaper will be launched in the UK in April, which will be fully dedicated to sports betting.

The newspaper, branded The Sportsman employs around 120 journalists and will issue its first paper in April this year. In addition to selling copies to a growing market of bettors, the newspaper expects considerable revenues from online betting companies' advertising.

The editor explains that the paper will be more "middle of the road" than the only other daily betting paper, The Racing Post.

More relevant news for horseracing came from the British media sector with the announcement of a new TV channel Horse & Country TV. This digital channel, supported by the Sky TV group, will go on air on 2 July, 2006
